PCP does not create projects. All of PCP's projects originate with requests from the communities and organizations which will operate and maintain the facilities provided. Decisions about the capabilities and size of the installation are based on community needs, resources available for the project, governmental regulations and considerations of appropriate technology. PCP can provide assistance in planning, preparing license applications and training.
We do not have a set of standards for organizations that wish to work with PCP. PCP is not a development organization so much as a provider of tools for those already engaged in doing development in their own communities. By providing them with tools of communication, PCP seeks to make their work more effective.
We have no formal application form. Proposals for projects should answer the following questions:
- What is the nature of your work and how do you carry this out? Whom do you serve?
- In what geographical area do you operate?
- What is the structure of your organization? Does it have a governing body?
- How can PCP further your work?
- What means -- other than computer or radio technology -- have you considered for achieving your goals?
- Are you now receiving assistance from any development agencies or governmental bodies? Please name them and specify the nature of this assistance.
- How soon do you need to begin this project?
- What are the address, e-mail address, fax number, and telephone number of your organization? Please provide the names of the people in your organization whom we should contact.
- What is the history of your organization?
- Most of our projects need electricity. Please tell us about any power source to which you have access, providing specific details, such as its voltage, whether it is alternating or direct current, the maximum wattage or current available, hours of availability, the presence of other users with whom you must time- share power, and stability (e.g., the occurance of power surges, low voltage periods, sudden losses of power, and frequency irregularities). If you do not have access to electricity, we may be able to supply a power source, but this would make it more difficult for us to find the resources to carry out your project, and the project would take longer.
